Expanded Lines
A research-driven collection exploring the possibilities of 3D printing on textiles.
Expanded Lines marks the beginning of my research into 3D printing on textiles. A project focused on investigating how additive manufacturing can expand the possibilities of fashion construction. Developed during my early exploration of digital fabrication, the collection became a practical study of how printed structures interact with fabric, movement, and the body. Rather than using 3D printing as surface decoration, the work explores it as a structural technique, testing how printed lines, density, and material behaviour can transform textile surfaces into dimensional, responsive forms.
The project combines experimental making with technical investigation, exploring how rigid and flexible materials coexist within garments and how digital design translates into wearable outcomes. While there is a subtle influence from organic underwater structures, the primary focus of Expanded Lines lies in the exploration of technique, understanding how 3D printing can create new textile languages and inform future approaches to fashion innovation.
The collection consists of three key looks, each investigating a different direction within the same research framework:
Look 01
Coral Anatomy














Coral Anatomy look explores a 4D printing approach inspired by the adaptive behaviour of coral structures. Using a sandwich method that combines textiles with two different material properties, the printed elements respond and transform once applied to fabric, creating controlled movement and organic volume. The technique investigates how layered materials can generate shape change and mimic natural growth patterns through digital fabrication.
Look 02
Moiré Drops














Moire Drops focuses on achieving a natural moiré effect through 3D printing directly on textiles. The look uses the same base printing strategy but introduces two different printing materials to create subtle visual interference and shifting surface patterns. By controlling material interaction, the piece studies how optical effects can emerge from technical decisions rather than applied embellishment.
Look 03
Shimoiré










Building on the research from Moire Drops, Shimoire pushes the moiré concept closer to the body. The printed lines are designed to merge with body contours, creating a more integrated relationship between textile, print, and movement. The result is a surface that visually flows with the wearer, emphasizing the dialogue between digital patterning and human form.
